A Review of The Legend of Korra

I will be breaking down my review by season then summarized together at the end.

Season 1

Who?

Ok so there are some main characters that I will summarize below.

  • Korra: MC who is basically the opposite of Aang in about all ways imaginable. Her character is really explosive, quick to react, and seldomly complexly thought out. She is very much the person to act on impulse as opposed to well/deeply-thought out responses. Furthermore, her character is very shallow. There is no nuance or depth that is visible. Spoiler alert: her character does not change too much.
  • Mako: Cool-guy who is the more approachable of the brothers. In particular, I think he is a more reasonable counterpart to the rather rash MC. However, his character really is nothing more than "guy who uses fire and supports the others". It's unfortunate because he had some potential from what I could see.
  • Bolin: The comedic guy who is the butt of the jokes. Really sad because he is actually a really nice and caring guy. It's nice to see a likeable character who gets some depth, but man what a shame. He ends up repeatedly screwed over by poor writing and direction.
  • Asami: Badass. In all honesty, one of the few saving graces of the show. Quite literally the only reason the team works. She is a badass non-bender who is capable of using her engineering background to assist in many aspects that the other members lack. I tend to like the thinkers and she definitely is a great one. I find her to be like a better Sokka in certain regards.
  • Tenzin: Mr cool guy who wants to live up to his projected father's wishes. I think he was a great addition to the show and really demonstrated the challenges that come with being the successor to someone who has a large legacy.
